Las Vegas, Nev. (Oct. 14, 2012) — The Cowgirl doubles team of Veronica Popovici and Simona Synkova came up short in a bid for their second straight ITA Mountain Regional Title to close out the week on Sunday at the 2012 ITA Mountain Regional Championships in Las Vegas.

“We had a good week playing in Las Vegas,” said head coach Dean Clower. “This team has improved tremendously and we have only scratched the surface. We have great leaders on this team and I know that we will keep working during the off-season and work on the small things we need to. I am very happy with our staff and the loyalty the players have shown to the program. We are all very excited for the spring to come.”

Popovici and Synkova battled out their semifinal match with Verberne and Okhremchuk of Nevada to come away with a 9-7 win. In the finals match, they would suffer an 8-5 loss against a very tough team from Utah in Paige Miles and Tereza Bekerova.

In the singles draw semifinals, Popovici lost in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, against Aleksandra Josifoska of UNLV. She would go on to defeat Sarah Pham of Utah in the finals.

Wyoming will be in action beginning in the spring of 2013. They will start it off with a match against Portland State, on Saturday, January 19, in Pullman, Wash.
