Cowgirl Basketball dominates Eastern Michigan in 23-point win, 73-50

Sewell records second double-double of the season

Laramie, Wyo. (Dec. 1, 2012) — The Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team (5-1 overall) rebounded with a 73-50 victory over the Eastern Michigan Eagles (1-6 overall) on Saturday afternoon.

“I thought we had a true team effort with players stepping up and contributing along with a couple of individual efforts,” said head coach Joe Legerski. “Kaitlyn Mileto got us off to a tremendous start and when she gets in the zone I don’t want to take her out. I believe you go with them until you start missing some shots. Then in the second half, Chaundra Sewell just dominated the game. To get 20 points and 16 rebounds, you can see why she’s an all-conference performer and that we need her on the floor. For a stretch I challenged them to have someone rebound besides her because she seemed to be everywhere. The other thing I’m looking at is that we’re able to we’re able to win basketball games with my four and five player playing 25 and 26 minutes. That means we are getting some contributions from our bench players. This was a very good team effort”

Chaundra Sewell finished her night with her second double-double of the season with 20 points and a career high 16 rebounds. She was 9-16 from the field in her 25 minutes of play. Kaitlyn Mileto recorded 19 points, three assists and three steals, while Ashley Sickles and Fallon Lewis each chipped in eight points. Wyoming was 30-71 (.423) from the field 9-20 (.409) from beyond the arc and out rebounded the Eagles 50 to 36.

Eastern Michigan was led by Olivia Fouty with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Denaya Brazzle recorded eight points while Desyree Thomas added seven. The Eagles were 19-59 (.322) from the field.

The Eagles scored first with an India Hairston basket which Wyoming responded with a Kaitlyn Mileto three-point field goal. A basket from Desyree Thomas finally ended the run and a four minute drought by EMU. Another three-point field goal by Mileto quickly put the Cowgirls back up by 10, 17-7.
