High winds stoking controlled burns along WY 134, two fire alarms reported
(Riverton) – A severe thunderstorm in Eastern Fremont County is producing wind gusts in excess of 50 mph according to the Riverton National Weather Service Forecast Office at 3:45 p.m.
The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office dispatch center reports this hour that two controlled burns have been whipped out of control along the Missouri Valley Road by the high winds. The grass fires are burning in the 200 and 1900 blocks of Missouri Valley Road, also known as Wyoming Highway 134 between Campbell’s Corner and Pavillion. County fire battalions from Pavillion, Morton-Kinnear, Midvale, Missouri Valley and Shoshoni have been called out to fight the wind whipped fires.
The National Weather Service advises those planning controlled burns to check with the Riverton forecast office in advance to avoid out of control fires. High winds whipped a fire out of control yesterday afternoon near Dubois and again this afternoon along Hwy 134.
