(Lander, Wyo.) – Local lawyer Nathan Maxon has qualified as an Independent candidate to challenges incumbent, Doug Thompson, for the District 5 Fremont County Commissioner seat. He is the second Independent to quality for the ballot as Stephanie Kessler earlier qualified to challenge incumbent Pat Hickertson in Commissioner District #4.

“I’m running because of Mr. Thompson’s agenda-driven approach that lacks focus on the Commission’s basic duties and has wasted taxpayer resources,” Maxon said in a prepared release.  Commission District 5 is composed of south Lander, east Riverton, Red Canyon, Atlantic City, and Jeffery City.

“As an Independent I will evaluate ideas and arrive at solutions without the constraint of ideology and a party’s agenda. I will strive to listen, understand, and represent what most people want and care about. I will bring a balanced approach to policies and decisions that promotes governmental efficiency, recognizes differing values, and will always result in a wide public benefit,” he said.  “If elected, I pledge to be accessible, transparent, diligent, and open to the concerns and ideas of all local people. ”

Maxon operates the Lander office of Jones and Maxon, a local law firm that provides general legal representation for Wyoming residents. Prior to opening his private law practice, Maxon worked in industry, government, and as part of a nonprofit.

Nathan is married to Valerie and has a young son named Thomas. He grew up in Fort Bridger, Wyoming and attended the University of Wyoming where he earned his Bachelor of Science and Law degrees. A long-time hunter and angler, Nathan values the quality open spaces and wildlife that can only be found in Wyoming.

“I have enjoyed meeting and listening to people on the campaign and and I look forward to hearing the concerns of my fellow Fremont county residents,” he said.
