Police Blotter: Arrests; Car stolen and recovered in Lander; Short search and rescue call for coyote hunters

(Lander, Wyo.) – Monday’s law enforcement recap from across Fremont County.

Lander Police Department


Tashina Morgan, 24, Lander, Park County Warrant.

Gina Duran, 19, Lander, FCSO Warrant. Duran was arrested following a 9:08 a.m., Friday call about an assault on the 100 block of Northside Drive, Chief Jim Carey said. He noted that alcohol was involved, and a second individual was involved who had warrants. Officers were unable to locate the individual.

William Armstrong, 47, Lander, Unauthorized Use of Motor Vehicle. At 7:43 p.m. on Friday, police were called to the 400 block of Rail Road for a report of a Community Entry Services van that was stolen. Carey said officers quickly located the missing van about four blocks away on the 400 block of Four Seasons Drive. Upon investigation, police determined that Armstrong drove the van to its current location. “Alcohol was involved,” Carey said. There was no damage found on the van, and it was returned to the owner.

Theodore Goggles, 71, Riverton, three LPD Failure to Appear Warrants.


At 3:42 p.m. on Friday, police were called about a stolen cell phone. The caller believed the $340 black Droid Commando could have been taken from a business on the 200 block of Main Street.

At 8:55 p.m. on Friday, police received a report of an intoxicated individual driving a truck into the fence at the skating rink at City Park. Carey said officers were unable to locate the vehicle and no damage was found to the fence.

At 8:53 a.m. on Saturday, officers took a report of a vehicle that was vandalized sometime over the night on the 900 block of River View. Carey said the wind shield was severely cracked and there were two dents on the driver’s side door of a 2012 Ford Escape. Damage totaled more than $500. Carey said there were no suspects at this time.

At 9:27 p.m., Saturday, police were called to the McDonald’s parking lot for a report of a white Ford truck driving on snow banks. Carey said the banks were snow piles made from clearing the parking lot. The driver was issued a warning.

At 4:40 a.m. on Sunday, Carey said his office assisted the Wyoming Highway Patrol with an arrest. Carey said the trooper was having difficulty detaining a male subject and when the man approached the LPD officer, a taser was deployed. “It was a combative arrest,” Carey said.

A Friday morning report of possible child abuse in Riverton is under investigation. According to the FCSO call log, the man suspected his ex-wife of abusing his daughter.

At 5:59 p.m. on Friday, deputies were called to Kinnear for a report of a juvenile girl who jumped out of a moving vehicle and then threw rocks at it. The caller was afraid the girl would try to runaway. The juvenile was returned home without injuries.

At 5:13 a.m. on Saturday, deputies received a report of a man who sent text messages to the caller that said he “had taken two people out and that he would be seeing him on the news in the morning.”  The call was handled by the Riverton Police Department.

At 7:50 p.m. on Saturday, deputies were called to Middle Fork Lane outside of Lander for a report of a theft. The caller said he was gone for a couple days and when he returned his TV, DVD player, surround sound system and portable fireplace were gone. The caller said he refused to pay rent because his landlord refused to fix frozen pipes.

At 2 a.m. on Sunday, Search & Rescue was notified of a coyote hunting party that hadn’t returned from a trip near South Pass City. The caller said they should have been home by 8 or 9 p.m. earlier that evening. At nearly 4 a.m., deputies were notified that the missing subjects were found and were ok.
