Cowgirl Basketball faces tough road challenge against New Mexico Wednesday in Albuquerque
The two teams face off on Wednesday night 7:00 p.m.
Laramie, Wyo. (Jan. 29, 2013) — The Wyoming women’s basketball team will play their second consecutive road game as they take on the New Mexico Lobos, on Wednesday, Jan. 30. The game is set to tip-off at 7:00 p.m. at The Pit in Albuquerque. Live stats and audio can be found at www.gowyo.com.
The Cowgirls are currently 15-4 overall and 4-2 in MW play after an 86-48 win over the Air Force Academy Falcons, on Saturday afternoon. Four of five starters are averaging double-figures led by Chaundra Sewell. She is averaging 14.5 points and a league leading 9.7 rebounds. Kayla Woodward follows with 14.2 points and 6.1 rebounds while Kaitlyn Mileto is adding 12.7 points. Senior Ashley Sickles is chipping in 11.3 points and 5.8 boards as well.
Wyoming is first in the league in scoring offense (72.4 ppg) and assists (15.6 aspg). They are also shooting 490-1080 (.454) from the field and 129-335 (.385) from beyond the arc. Both rank first in the league. In Mountain West games, they are first in scoring offense and assists (16.8 aspg), second in free throw and field goal percentage, scoring defense and rebounding margin.
The Lobos are currently 10-8 overall an 2-3 in the MW. They are led by Caroline Durbin who is averaging 11.8 points and 4.2 rebounds. Deeva Vaughn follows with 10.1 points and 5.1 boards, while Jourdan Erskine is bringing down a team high 5.7 rebounds. They return three starters and eight letterwinners to a team that went 11-20 overall and 3-11 in the MW a year ago.
This will be the 65th meeting between the two schools. New Mexico leads the series 36-28. The last time the two teams met was February 11, 2012 as the Lobos defeated the Cowgirls 60-57 in Laramie. New Mexico is coached by Yvonne Sanchez who is in her second year at the helm.
