Power outage in Riverton caused by a vehicle wreck

(Riverton, Wyo.) – Nearly a quarter of Riverton’s in-town population had to deal with a temporary power outage earlier this afternoon.

Rocky Mountain Power spokesperson Dave Eskelsen said a vehicle wreck caused an outage at 12:17 p.m. The utility’s crew members were able to restore electricity by 1:08 p.m.

Eskelsen said 2,400 customers were out of power during that timeframe. “The crew was able to repair things,” he said.

He did not have any additional information about the wreck that caused the problems, and calls to Riverton Police Department were not immediately returned. County10.com has received reports of a vehicle that hit a power pole near the Holiday Inn, which is located at East Sunset Drive and North Federal Boulevard.

When asked if the utility received a large volume of call from the incident, Eskelsen said, “I’m sure we did,” though he hadn’t heard from other portions of the company whether that was true or not.
