Police Blotter: Arrests; Headphones taken at courthouse; Gun theft under investigation in Dubois; Tire slasher caught in Riverton

(Fremont County, Wyo) – Today’s wrap-up of law enforcement activity around Fremont County. All persons cited or arrested are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law.

Lander Police Department

At 12 p.m. yesterday, police were called to Loaf N Jug for a minor wreck. Lt. Chuck Carr said one vehicle backed into another. There was an estimated $300 in damage.

At 3:29 p.m., an employee at the Fremont County Courthouse reported a $400 pair of headphones stolen out of her desk drawer sometime between Tuesday evening and Thursday morning. The woman told police she had asked 10-20 people about the headphones. Police took the report.

Police made contact with s suspicious subject at the skatepark on Thursday afternoon. Police made contact with the male subject, and found everything to be OK.

At 4:44 p.m., police were called to a home on the 600 block of Market Street for a report of a person yelling. Police helped the man calm down, Carr said.

A woman called police at 5:28 p.m. to the 700 block of North Fifth for a report of a juvenile female walking in the rain. Police were unable to locate the girl.

A two-vehicle crash Friday morning about 8:30 a.m. occurred on the south end of the 8-Mile Road west of Riverton when a passenger car struck a truck and horse trailer that was turning in the roadway. There were no injuries. No details were immediately available. A sheriff’s Deputy is investigating the incident.

At 7:07 a.m., deputies were called to the 100 block of Two Valley Road near Riverton for a report of a 18-20 year-old woman who knocked on the caller’s door and asked to use the bathroom. The caller refused entry and the woman walked away, meeting up with a male subject. Both left in an unidentified vehicle.

At 10:50 a.m., a man on the 1500 block of East Monroe Avenue in Riverton asked for deputies’ help in recovering some tools from another man.

A woman on Northwoods Road near Lander reported received six automated calls and no messages were left. She just wanted the calls documented.

Deputies were called by staff to the school in Shoshoni for a report of one student threatening to beat up another.

At 6:48 p.m., deputies were called to the Rustic Pine Tavern in Dubois for a report of a bar fight. The argument was about a hunting incident. No one wished to pursue charges, the sheriff’s office reports.

A theft in the Lander area of six guns is under investigation. No additional information was readily available.

Deputies responded to a call about a truck in a ditch on the north side of Gasser Road near North Eighth West in Riverton. There were no injuries, only minor damage and there was no alcohol involved.

John YellowCalf, 37, Riverton, Aggravated Assault and six counts of Property Destruction. According to a Riverton Police report, YellowCalf was being escorted out of Bombers Sports Bar when he turned around and pulled a 7 inch-long knife and threatened the club’s bouncer with the knife. It was later determined that Yellowcalf had slashed the tires of 6 vehicles that were located mnear Bombers Sports Bar.


The RPD’s media liaison was involved in interviews for a new Victim Witness Coordinator on Friday and was unavailable for the daily media briefing. Information on  Thursday’s calls will be posted when available.
