Quilts of Valor awarded to 71 Fremont County Veterans in post Veterans Day event in Riverton

Vietnam Army Veteran Scott Ratliff was one of 71 veterans who received a Quilt of Valor this year.

(Riverton, Wyo.) – It’s been said that lives are like quilts, bits and pieces, joy and sorrow, stitched with love. For the past year, a group of Fremont County quilters have been stitching and sewing Quilts of Valors. These quilts are given to honor and comfort men and women who have served their country, and Fremont County, in the military and specifically, while standing in the face of war.

On November 12th, one day after Veterans Day, 71 Quilts of Valor were distributed to county veterans at a special event in Riverton at the St. Margaret’s School gymnasium. Over 300 veterans, family members, guests, sewers and quilters were on hand. Quilts were distributed to veterans from World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Iraq and Afghanistan.

The mission of the Quilts of Valor Foundation is to cover all combat service members and veterans touched by war with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor.

Stephanie Logan of Riverton is the Wyoming Coordinator for QOV and Chestine Brohm is the Fremont County Coordinator. Brohm was credited this year with quilting over half of the quilts presented at this year’s event.

At least 46 different individuals participated in quilting this years colorful quilts.
