(Riverton, Wyo.) – Riverton Police have arrested a Fort Washakie man in connection with an attempted murder that occurred Sunday morning at 5:37 that has left a woman hospitalized. Police Captain Eric Murphy said 32-year-old Heto Thayer was arrested at gunpoint inside the Walmart store a short time after the assault, which occurred across Highway 789 at the Comfort Inn.

Initial police reports indicated a stabbing call was received from the motel’s address and police and ambulance units responded. The injured female, a 24-year-old Riverton woman, was reportedly slipping in and out of consciousness, and police assisted EMS personnel in rushing her to the hospital. Police then followed the footprints of the suspect that he left in the snow which lead them across the highway and into Walmart. Police also recovered what they believed to be the weapon, which the suspect reportedly stashed outside of the store before entering. Police located the suspect in a check out line and, with guns drawn, made the arrest.

Investigators are still working on the case this morning and further information will be released as it becomes available, according to Capt. Murphy. The condition of the female victim is unknown.
