Fremont County Fire Protection District Chief Craig Haslam said firefighters responded to two chimney fires the last couple days. At 5:19 p.m. on Wednesday, firefighters from Crowheart and Dubois responded to a chimney fire at a residence on the 300 block of Wilderness Road near Crowheart. “It was contained to the chimney,” Haslam said. He said the fire was mostly out by the time firefighters arrived. After evaluating the rest of the scene, he said crews cleared the scene “pretty fast.” Yesterday, at 5:40 p.m., firefighters were called to a nearly identical situation at a residence on the 600 block of California Street in Shoshoni. Haslam said it was pretty much extinguished by the time the crews arrived. Haslam said generally chimney fires are caused when build-up within the chimneys catches.
