Fremont County Library System Director Nojonen has resigned

(Lander, Wyo.) – The Director of the Fremont County Library System, Matt Nojonen, abruptly resigned on Wednesday, according to Library Board Chairman Kevin Tippetts of Riverton. “I received a letter from him, he did not cite a reason,” Tippetts said when reached by telephone on Friday. “The effective date of his resignation is in June.”

Calls to Nojonen made Thursday had not been returned by 1 p.m. on Friday.

Tippetts said the members of the county library board had not acted on the resignation letter yet, and would not until their first weekly meeting in June, set in Riverton on June 5th. The board received notification of the resignation through an email from Tippets, sent on Wednesday.

Nojonen has been the Fremont County Library System director just over two years.

“It came out of the blue,” Tippetts said, “It was a surprise.”

Under Nojonen’s guidance, the library system was able to restore full hours at each of its branch libraries after having operated under reduced hours for several years due to budget considerations. The renovation of the Carnegie Library in Lander has also taken place under his leadership.
