National Hospital Week to be celebrated at Riverton and Lander hospitals this week

(Fremont County, Wyo.) – Every year in May, communities and healthcare professionals across the country celebrate National Hospital Week. Sponsored by the American Hospital Association, National Hospital Week is a time to reflect on the important role hospitals play in their communities.

This year, National Hospital Week is May 12-18, and in Fremont County, Lander Regional and Riverton Memorial hospitals are joining the celebration, according to a news release from the hospitals.

“At Lander Regional and Riverton Memorial hospitals, we are more than just healthcare providers. We are your neighbors, family members and friends,” said Steve Erixon, CEO of Lander Regional Hospital and interim CEO at Riverton Memorial Hospital. “And that’s what our hospital is all about: Caring for the people and the community we love by providing the high quality healthcare they deserve and need.”

National Hospital Week was also created to honor healthcare professionals across the country. Together, the hospitals in Fremont County employ 464 medical staff, nurses, business, administrative and maintenance staff, making each hospital one of the largest employers in their respective community.

“I could not be more proud of the team at both hospitals,” Erixon said. “At every level of our organization, our employees and medical staff are committed to advancing quality, safety and the patient experience.”

In addition to being a major employer and healthcare provider, our hospitals support each community by paying taxes that help support the local economy,  providing charity and uncompensated care to help individuals who cannot afford to pay for the care they receive, and supporting important community programs and initiatives such as the American Cancer Society Relay For Life, Boy Scouts of America, Child Development Services, Help For Health Foundation, Kiwanis International, Lander Arts Center, Rotary International, Tough Enough to Help Cancer Fund, and several other organizations.

“As the sole hospital provider in each community, we are proud to be the primary resource and advocate for quality healthcare in this area,” Erixon said. “This ranges from responding to your medical needs to helping you understand what healthcare reform means to you.”
