Apparent drowning victim pronounced dead at Riverton hospital; Efforts to revive were unsuccessful
(Riverton, Wyo.) – Fremont County Undersheriff Ryan Lee said a 55-year-old rural Riverton woman was pronounced dead at Riverton Memorial Hospital this afternoon after she was found in an irrigation ditch. Efforts to revive the woman were unsuccessful. Lee said the woman was from the Buckhorn Flats area west of Eight Mile Road, but her identity is not being released. Lee said at this point there appears to be nothing suspicious about the death, but an investigation is underway due to the circumstances.
The Fremont County Coroner’s office said an autopsy will be performed in Loveland, Colo. on Thursday as part of the investigation.
Lee said the ditch involved was about three feet across in width. “It was not as large as a lateral, but bigger than a small field ditch,” he said.
No further information was released.
