(Riverton, Wyo.) – A shots fired call scrambled Riverton police this afternoon to an apartment complex in the 300 block of East Madison shortly after 1:30 p.m. A suspect was apprehended at the scene with a weapon, which he allegedly discharged in the courtyard of the complex, no one was injured. The suspect was also implicated in an incident about 20 minutes earlier in an alley off of South Federal Boulevard where he allegedly brandished a gun. Police said they were going to charge the suspect with discharging a gun within the city limits, and interference. Other charges may also be forthcoming.

Police were called by apartment residents and neighbors after hearing a single gunshot ring out at the apartment complex. A man matching the description of the suspect from the incident in the alley was found at the scene and was taken into custody after police surrounded the complex and evacuated some residents from harms way. They then moved in on the suspect. He was placed into a patrol vehicle in the driveway of Riverton Fire Station #4.  While officers were interviewing witnesses, the suspect tried to get into the front seat of the patrol car by squeezing through a small window in a plastic divider, but officers noticed the attempt and he was put in restraints and driven to the RPD.

A second man, who appeared to be a juvenile, was also handcuffed and questioned at the scene, but his role in the incident is unknown at this time.
