Updated at 1 p.m.: Several closures and cancellations announced; Power out for thousands

(Fremont County, Wyo.) – The first winter storm of the season is causing a number of closures and cancellations across the county. Keep this post handy, as it will be update as more information on closures become available.

High Plains Power in Riverton reports a widespread power outage on their system this morning with over 5,000 customers affected. GM Jeff Hohn said crews are responding as fast as they can. HPP also reported that anyone on their system who does not have power by mid afternoon should contact the outage number… (307) 856-9426 or 800-455-0613.

Power Outage Update for Rocky Mountain Power customers:
Lander… 2,266 customers are without power
Thermoplis… 132 customers are without power
Casper… about 2,000 customers without power
Riverton… power outages all over town, no totals available yet. Rocky Mountain Power crews from Cody and Worland have joined Riverton and Lander based crews in addressing the wide spread outages due to the storm damage from downed trees and tree limbs… more updates when available

-Wind River Middle and High Schools were planned to have no school today already, but this afternoon’s Lights On programs are cancelled.

-According to Kathy Hinkle, Dubois school students were released at 10:30 a.m. for a power outage.

-Today’s Injury Prevention Resources car seat clinic at the Wyoming Life Resource Center has been rescheduled for Oct. 5.

-Special Olympics Area games in Lander have been cancelled.

-The Public Lands Day volunteer event at the Wild Iris climbing area is cancelled.

-Due to loss of power from the recent winter storm, the Wind River Ranger District office in Dubois is currently closed.

-Fort Washakie School (Fremont 21) will be dismissing students & bussing them home at 12:30 due to power issues.

-The Pushroot Community Garden has cancelled their harvest party that was planned for tomorrow September 28th.
