Celebration of Life for Bill Urbigkit filled Riverton’s Holiday Inn Friday afternoon

(Riverton, Wyo.) – A celebration of life for former Riverton Public Works Director Bill Urbigkit drew a huge crowd to the Holiday Inn this afternoon, filling the hotel’s three meeting rooms and the entire indoor court spaces with standing room only. While a projector in the central meeting room displayed tributes to Urbigkit and photos from his life, people were chatting and telling their own “Bill” stories.

Among the attendees was Wyoming Secretary of State Max Maxfield, State Representative Rita Campbell, Bill’s colleagues from City Hall, relatives and friends. It was a festive atmosphere with Hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar, and desserts.

Riverton City Hall was closed for the occasion.

In a special memorial, City of Riverton Parks Superintendent Joel Blury quietly, and without fanfare, planted a tree in Urbigkit’s memory in Gabe’s Park along the Rails to Trails adjacent to Pershing Boulevard. Blury also installed a plaque at the base of the tree in Bill’s honor.
