County funds won’t be spent on private property flood protection without disaster declaration
(Fremont County, Wyo.) – Fremont County Government priorities for Critical Public Infrastructure protection during the 2014 spring runoff will include County bridges and roads, gas and phone lines, and in conjunction with the Wyoming Department of Transportation, State highways within the county, the Fremont County Commission said in a news release.
“Citizens in floodplain areas should monitor river or stream conditions and be prepared for possible flood conditions,” the county states. “County resources will not be expended to assist private property owners in protecting private property unless, or until, a disaster declaration is made.”
Sandbags are available to the members of the public who can demonstrate need. Sandbags are available at the Riverton Transportation Department (4441 Skyline Road) from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., Monday through Friday starting on May 12.
Questions about flood protection measures should be directed to the Fremont County Emergency Management Agency at 856-2374.
