Riverton council approves fireworks displays on June 26th, July 19th

(Riverton, Wyo.) – The Riverton City Council Tuesday night unanimously approved two large fireworks displays in the city, one by the Riverton Little League on June 26th and one for the Riverton Rendezvous Celebration on July19th. The Little League’s end of the season celebration would be held adjacent to the Ron Saban Baseball Complex off of Smith Road. The Riverton Rendezvous display is scheduled for Griffey Hill, as in past years.

Only one resident spoke in opposition to the fireworks. Henry “Pete” Davis said he was concerned because of the impact the fireworks have on veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and several he knew of who reacted badly to the noise.

The current application process spells out the kind and size of fireworks that can be used.

City Council member Jonathan Faubion suggested the city should look at a specific area where city residents can shoot off fireworks on the 4th of July. Mr. Davis suggested that same thing in his remarks. “They’re going to shoot them off on the 4th and I’d have an interest in designating a place where this could be done legally,” Faubion said. Currently, fireworks are banned in the city of Riverton. City staff was given direction to look into that possibility.
