Child struck by car near county courthouse in Lander
UPDATE at 4:05 p.m.: Lander Police Chief Jim Carey said the investigation into the collision is on-going as officers compile evidence and witness statements. The girl was reportedly on a scooter and at this time is believed to have not been wearing a helmet. Carey said she sustained some facial abrasions and unknown other injuries at this time. Whether or not any citations might be issued against the driver will be determined by the outcome of the investigation.
(Lander, Wyo.) – A child on a scooter was struck by a Chevrolet Malibu on North Second Street in Lander just a few minutes ago. The 11-year-old female victim was treated at the scene before transport to SageWest-Lander Health Center, there is partial blockage of North Second.
According to a Lander Volunteer Firefighter, the girl was alert and crying, which he indicated was a good sign. She reportedly had some road rash and a cut on the forehead.
The vehicle involved, which had Tennessee plates, sustained only minor damage. The most visible damage was to the passenger side-view mirror.
Lander Police are still at the scene piecing together the details of the wreck. More information about how the wreck occurred will be published when it comes available.
