Police Blotter: Arrests; Shoplifting report leads to DUI arrest; Lightning sparks brief fire
(Fremont County, Wyo.) – Here is Wednesday’s recap of law enforcement activity around the county. All those arrested or cited are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law.
Riverton Police Department
Aaron Lujan, 34, Riverton, Driving While Under the Influence; and Howard Lujan, 26, Riverton, Shoplifting and on a Fremont County warrant. A shoplifting was reported at Smith’s Food and Drug with the suspects fleeing the area in a silver mini-van. Police located the vehicle shortly thereafter with three people inside. Also found inside the van were the groceries allegedly taken from the store. Arrested for Driving While Under the Influence of Alcohol was Aaron Lujan. Arrested on an outstanding warrant and for shoplifting was Howard Lujan. The third person in the van, a woman, was cited for shoplifting
Marc Cunningham, 35, Riverton, on Fremont County warrants; Michael Cousineau, 35, Riverton, Breach of Peace and Sarah Cousineau, 29, Riverton, Breach of Peace. A REDDI report was received on a green 1997 Ford Explorer in the 1400 block of West Park with three people inside. While police were en route, they were informed the vehicle had taken off. Officers were then advised that the vehicle had crashed into a fence in the 700 block of West Pershing near North 8th West. Two subjects were at the scene when officers arrived, and they reportedly said the driver had taken off after the crash. The driver was identified by his passengers. Over $1,000 in damage was reported. The vehicle was impounded. While officers were looking for the driver of the crashed vehicle, police received a 911 call from a pedestrian in the area, saying a green Ford Explorer had nearly run him over. Police contacted Marc Cunningham who was walking down the street. Cunningham said he had made the call. Cunningham also had an outstanding warrant and was taken into custody. As officers were photographing the crashed Explorer, the two passengers, Michael Cousineau and his sister Sarah Cousineau, became combative with the officer, yelling obscenities and other slurs and threatening to spit on him. The pair would not calm down and they were placed under arrest for Breach of the Peace.
Theodore Harding, 44, Riverton, Domestic Assault and False Imprisonment. Police were called to an address on Eileen Avenue at 12:05 a.m. Wednesday on a report of a female yelling for help. Responding officers determined that Harding and his 34-year-old wife were having marital issues. Officers observed visible signs that the wife had been struck.
A report of a child showing up at school in Riverton who was bruised has been turned over the Fremont County Sheriff’s Department for investigation. The 11-year-old female lives in the county’s jurisdiction.
A landlord called police regarding vandalism to a house that he had rented. The renters had moved out and apparently let the home damaged.
A pink bicycle was reported to have been left unclaimed at Aspen Park Elementary School.
Two female subjects left the Loaf ‘N Jug store Tuesday without paying for $3.38 worth of bagged ice. They left the property in a white Ford SUV.
The Burger King restaurant on North Federal reported a theft from their restaurant, but details were not immediately available. The report is under investigation.
A 12-year-old boy riding his bicycle in the area of Aspen Park School reported that another 12-year-old boy kicked the back tire of his bike causing it to stop. The victim said the other boy then forced him off of the bicycle which he then rode off on. The suspect has been identified and police are continuing with a follow-up.
A man called police to report that he was being harassed by another man over what was termed “owed money.” Apparently the victim’s settlement check is the money in question. The victim is a 25 year-old Riverton man. The suspect is a 32-year-old local transient. The report is being investigated.
A walker used to help people stand and be able to walk was stolen off of a front porch in the 300 block of East Madison. The theft was reported at 6:13 p.m. There are no suspects.
Police said a fawn deer was hit by a vehicle and injured at the intersection of North Federal and Sunset. Police had to dispatch the fawn and dispose of the carcass.
A call received by police indicated that a woman was outside yelling in the 1400 block of West Park. Police contacted the woman who did, in fact, admit to yelling. She said she saw someone “hanging around too close to her vehicle” and she said that she yelled at him to move on. No action was taken.
A reported case of child abuse turned out to be unfounded. The anonymous report said a father had smacked a child. When police contacted the man, he said his son had been misbehaving, he had received a slap and sent to his room. The child did not show any marks from the discipline. No action was taken.
Fremont County Sheriff’s Office
Amber Aoah, 22, Fort Washakie, Failure to Appear and Probation Revocation warrants.
A 13-year-old Fort Washakie girl for a Court Ordered Arrest.
Kurtis Thomas, 49, Casper, Probation Revocation Warrant.
Taylor Whitt, 20, Riverton, Probation Violation.
At 9:51 a.m., police took a report from Riverton Police about possible child abuse occurring at a location in the county. Deputies checked out the report and determined it to be unfounded.
At 10:34 a.m., deputies took a report of threats being made over water issues in the Riverton area. Deputies determined that the argument happened last summer.
The sheriff’s office was reportedly involved in an event that happened at about 6 p.m. at an undisclosed location in the county. No information was released as the situation is still under investigation.
At 6:49 a.m., deputies were called to South Railroad Avenue in Riverton for a report of a man passed out in a passenger car.
At 7:55 p.m., during the large thunderstorm that rolled through the Lander area, a man off the 2200 block of Squaw Creek Road saw a lightning bolt strike a tree stand, sending up smoke and briefly some flames. Lander Rural Firefighters responded, Dalton Sanders said, but were unable to locate the specific tree that had been struck. Sanders said it is believed that the torrential rains at the time quickly doused the fire.
Fremont County Coroner
Chief Deputy Coroner Mark Stratmoen today said the preliminary autopsy results on the body of a 44 year-old Riverton man confirmed that he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The incident was reported Sunday night at the Cozy Mobile Home Park on East Monroe where police were called on the report of a man being shot.
Lander Police Department
Arleda Track, 51, Fort Washakie, LPD Warrant.
A 53-year-old Lander woman was cited for Shoplifting.
Loretta St. Angelo, 57, Lander, FCSO Warrant.
Valerie Black, 54, Lander, LPD Warrant.
Lander Police responded to 22 calls for service Tuesday morning into early Wednesday.
A bicycle was reported stolen from an address on Adams Street at about 11 a.m.
A hit and run wreck was reported at about 11:25 a.m. at an address on Main Street.
Six of the calls involved dogs or other animal issues.
