The 1838 Riverton Rendezvous – 25-years strong this year!

(Riverton, Wyo) – This year marks the 25th anniversary of the 1838 Mountain Man Rendezvous re-enactment! The re-enactment this year will run from July 2-6 in Riverton.

The Riverton Rendezvous is the only re-enactment located on the actual historic site. People get the opportunity to walk in the same footsteps of great trappers and traders from the past such as Jim Bridger, Kit Carson, Joe Meek, Andrew Drips, William Drummond Stewart, Moses “Black” Harris, and others.

This year’s fun starts with a parade on Main Street in the afternoon of July 2nd followed by opening ceremonies at 5:00 p.m. with a free dinner and Native American dancing to follow.

Thursday, Friday and Saturday will see the normal black powder shooting, hawk ‘n knife competitions, and numerous seminars centered around the fur trapping era.

We are expecting numerous traders this year. Trader’s Row is the nineteenth century “Ebay” with everything you didn’t know existed but can’t live without.  This gives visitors a chance to “shop ’till they drop”.

We pride ourselves on the seminars offered for beginning rendezvous-goers and enjoy teaching the ways of the rendezvous days to our local youth.?Saturday will be set aside as a family day with a great number of activities for kids and “non” participants of the rendezvous.

We will have seminars on fire starting with flint and steel, dutch oven cooking, flint knapping, Teepee set-up and organization, trap setting, skinning and hooping furs, embroidery, historical information about the era, and many others.

The rendezvous site this year will be a bit more challenging to get to with Monroe Ave. closed due to roadwork. We recommend traveling East on Park to Smith, then South on Smith to the site.
