Lander attractions among list of best places to climb in Wyoming

(Lander, Wyo.) –, a self-proclaimed “new breed” of online adventure travel guides, just released its list of best places to climb in Wyoming, and Lander’s rock walls are at the top of the list.

When it comes to the article’s section on bouldering and sport climbing, Sinks Canyon’s walls and Wild Iris’s limestone are the standouts.

Lander is the most notable of these locations—it features close access to Sinks Canyon (which has a wealth of good bouldering and sport climbing on three different kinds of rock), and also is near to Wild Iris, a popular sport climbing and bouldering area on solid, pocketed limestone,” the article by Chris Kalman states. “Sinks Canyon is an impressive array of sandstone, granite, and limestone boulders, as well as tall limestone sport walls. Wild Iris has shorter walls, but also features a wealth of awesome sport climbs and cool boulder problems.”

The route called ‘More Funky than Gunky’ in Sinks Canyon was named the ‘must-do’ route, and ‘Lander Sport Climbs’ by Steve Bechtel the guidebook of choice.

The Wind River Mountain Range, specifically Wolfe Head and Pingora in the Cirque of Towers, received special mention in the section on alpine climbing.
