Lander School Board to host information session for those interested in seeking election
(Lander, Wyo.) – Knowing that becoming a school board member is no easy adjustment, the Fremont County School District 1 Board of Education is preparing to host an information session for those who might want to run for a seat.
The filing period for school boards is from Aug. 7 to Aug. 25. Four of FCSD1’s seats are opening up in this year’s election.
Superintendent Mike Bowman presented a tentative agenda for the information session, which the board approved of this morning. Among the topics that would be discussed are an overview the district, role of the board, operating principals, board and superintendent roles, open meetings laws, legislative issues, and school funding mechanisms.
“It looks like everything’s in there,” Chairman Brett Berg said.
Board member Bruce Palmer suggested adding a section to discuss the district’s budget process. Trustee Brooke Sutton, who was elected in 2012, said she wished she had had all that information to get started with.
A date has not yet been set, but it will likely be sometime in either late July or early August.
