Blacks Fork and Smiths Fork E. coli limits up for public review

(Cheyenne, Wyo.) – The Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality (WDEQ) has completed the E. coli Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) for portions of Blacks Fork and Smiths Fork rivers in Uinta County near Lyman and Mountain View Wyoming. These TMDLs are in response to documented exceedances of the surface water standards for E. coli.

This study involved the analysis of historic data for the waterbodies, analysis of recent data collected during the study, and water quality modeling performed during the TMDL project. This project determined the allowable E. coli pollutant load for the waterbodies to ensure the achievement of the water quality standards as defined in Chapter 1 of Wyoming’s Water Quality Rules and Regulations. The draft Blacks Fork and Smiths Fork E. coli TMDL report is available at the Uinta County Public Library’s Lyman and Mountain View branches (references section), the Uinta County Conservation District office in Lyman, Wyoming and it can be downloaded from the internet at

The WDEQ will accept comments on the Blacks Fork and Smiths Fork E. coli TMDL report during the public comment period that is open from June 9th to July 9th, 2014.
