Las Vegas Officer killed in an ambush has Wyoming roots

(Green River, Wyo.) – Sunday’s rampage in Las Vegas left five dead, including two on-duty police officers. One of the officers was from Green River, Wyo. Green River Police Chief Chris Steffen told that Officer Alyn Beck grew up in Green River and has family in the community.

According to a Las Vegas Metro Police Department press release Officer Beck had been employed with the LVMPD since August 2001 and had been assigned to the Patrol Division, Northeast Area Command. Officer Beck leaves behind a wife and three children.

According to national reports, the two officers were killed at a pizza parlor, CiCi’s Pizza, a few miles east of downtown Las Vegas. Officers Beck, 42, and Igor Soldo, 32, were having lunch after working the neighborhood on patrol when the gunmen entered the restaurant.

The shooters then made their way to Wal-Mart across the street on North Nellis Boulevard in Las Vegas.

According to witness statements reported by the Las Angeles Times, a tall, thin, middled-aged man wearing military clothing and a small gun came in shouting, ‘the revolution is about to start.’

When police arrived on scene, officers ran inside the grocery chain, once inside, officers exchanged fire with two gunmen. One of the gunman, a woman, turned the gun on her partner before shooting herself.
