Riverton man facing endangering charges in connection to Thursday evening wreck

(Riverton, Wyo.) – A 28-year-old Riverton man has been arrested after he reportedly fled the scene of a wreck last Thursday night on the 200 block of Bee Road. Brandon Smiley is facing four citations in addition to an outstanding Failure to Appear Warrant.

Fremont County Undersheriff Ryan Lee said that deputies were called to the wreck after the vehicle had reportedly lost control, veered through a fence and become stuck in a ditch. “Upon arrival four passengers standing around the vehicle identified Smiley as the driver, they indicated he had fled the area for an unknown reason,” Lee said. “Deputies went to check the vehicle and at that point located an 8-year-old male who was identified as Smiley’s son. The boy was found to have been wearing a seatbelt during the collision and was not harmed. The young man was later reunited with his mother.”

The passengers in the vehicle included the 8-year-old male, two 16-year-old girls, one 16-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man, all from Fremont County; there were no injuries reported. The vehicle was identified as a 2003 GMC truck.

Lee went on to say that Smiley did not return to the scene nor did he contact law enforcement. Deputies caught up with him hiding in a residence on Firethorn Lane a day later on Friday night. He was arrested at that time.

Smiley has been charged with Child Endangering, Reckless Endangering, Driving While Under Suspension and Duty to Report Property Damage.
