Woman allegedly choked in Riverton, but remembers nothing about the attack

(Riverton, Wyo.) – The BIA Wind River Police contacted the RPD Friday with information on a 30-year-old Riverton female who had allegedly been assaulted within the city limits, but was found near the Northern Arapaho Sundance Grounds at Ethete.

The woman allegedly had been choked at her apartment on Redwood Drive in Riverton by a boyfriend, who had then driven her to the Sundance. A police report said the victim was also under the influence of methamphetamine, that she said she got from her boyfriend. The woman’s sister saw her in distress at the Sundance grounds and called for an ambulance and she was transported to SageWest Heath Center-Lander.

According to a Riverton Police report, the emergency room physicians said the woman’s symptoms were consistent with having force placed around her neck, but that there was no visible bruising. The victim, however, could not remember anything about the attack. The alleged perpetrator was identified only as a 29-year-old Riverton man.

Police said they did not have probable cause for an arrest at this time. Captain Eric Murphy said if the victim can remember more details, the police will follow-up on the case.
