County Clerk: Voters do not have to give information to campaign callers

(Fremont County, Wyo.) – Voters have been receiving calls asking how they will vote in the upcoming Wyoming Governor’s race and they are also being transferred to the Clerk’s Office to ask for an absentee ballot.

Although this method is NOT illegal, it can be disturbing to voters who do not wish to divulge their private vote preferences.  As a voter you have the following rights:

  1. You have the right NOT to answer any questions about your voting preferences.
  1. You have the right to ask to be listed on their DO NOT CALL LIST to keep you from being called by their organization.
  1. You have the right to ask who they represent and what they will do with the results.
  1. You have the right to refuse the assistance of an absentee voting process if you wish.

Note:  The County Clerks are prohibited from giving personal information from your registration card, but these companies have many ways of getting those numbers by other means.

Please contact the County Clerk at 332-1122 if you have any further questions.
