Valdez pledges Vision and Direction as he takes leadership of Central Wyoming College
(Riverton, Wyo.) – The new President of Central Wyoming College told a welcome reception in his honor Wednesday night that he has learned to be brief. “People listen to your hips, not your lips,” he said. The meaning was clear: Actions speak louder than words.
With that opening, Dr. Chris Valdez said he had been at work for one week and one day, and that he has met with some of the college’s employees and attended lots of meetings. “It is clear to me this institution is committed to helping students be successful,” he said. “Vision and direction is what I can add. I’m pleased to be here.” With that, he resumed meeting staff and chatting with board members prior to Wednesday night’s board meeting at the Intertribal Center on campus.
CWC Board of Trustees Chairman Dr. Roger Gose said the reception was one of four events being planned to welcome Dr. Valdez to the community. He said the others would be public and held in Riverton on August 6th, in Lander on August 12th, and in Jackson at a date yet to be determined. He said the times and locations for the public events would be announced.
Gose said Valdez’ strengths include consensus building and making diversity the culture of the college. Born and educated in the West, Gose said the new president brings “Unique skills and strengths to the college.”
