UPDATED: Dubois SAR crews launched to bring man with back pain out of the mountains

UPDATED at 10:10 a.m.

(Dubois, Wyo.) – Fremont County Search and Rescue crews are preparing to be airlifted into a location around Gannett Peak this morning. The Sheriff’s Office received a SPOT emergency activation near Down’s Fork Meadows, indicating a man was unable to move due to a back injury and was lying in some rough terrain.

Search and Rescue members from Dubois will be arriving in the area sometime later this morning to assess the situation.

Usually these types of rescues require two helicopters, one to shuttle man power into the location and a Medical Ship to evacuate the injured person.

First they will have to get him to suitable landing zone; depending on the terrain and distance it could be awhile.
