Rotary District Governor to visit Lander next week
(Lander, Wyo.) – Philip Murphy, Governor of Rotary District 5440, will speak at the regular meeting of the Rotary Club of Lander at 12 noon August 20, 2014 at the Oxbow restaurant in Lander. The international Rotary theme for the year is “Light Up Rotary.” His district includes 54 Rotary clubs in Wyoming, Northwestern Colorado, Eastern Idaho and Western Nebraska. Murphy is from Fort Collins, Colo.
Murphy is expected to focus on Growing Rotary. The theme is meant to put focus on all the projects that the Lander Club accomplishes, both locally and internationally. Opportunities are plentiful for potential members, young and old, to help Rotary achieve its mission of “peace and understanding throughout the world,” and by bringing their passion to provide service.
“We look forward to sharing some of our projects with the District Governor”, Staci Lancaster local club president said. The Rotary Club of Lander has been active in the support of funding for the new Lander Community and Convention Center, hosting Rotary exchange students, sponsoring an Interact Club in the local schools, reading to young students, giving local scholarships, providing dictionaries to area third graders, putting on both the Lander Shamrock Shindig last winter and the Buffalo BBQ this past July 4th Lander Rotary Club also helps sponsor a group of health care workers on a Mission of Mercy in Honduras.
