Friends of South Pass City gathered at annual meeting Saturday, Kiernan elected new President
(South Pass City, Wyo.) – The Friends of South Pass City organization held its annual meeting today at the historic gold mining town.
The plans for the August 31st “Run for the Gold” Poker Run were finalized. This year the event begins and ends at South Pass City and includes a number of stops along a 50 mile-long route of various historic sites in the area. The winning poker hand earns $500.
It was reported that Saturday night’s “Catch the Night Shift” scotch tasting and lantern tour of the Carissa Mine was sold out.
The annual election of officers and for a new board member was conducted over the internet in the weeks leading up to today’s meeting. Gator Kiernan was elected president for 2014-15, Steve Beazley is the new vice president, Ben Pearson was elected treasurer and Glen Hester was elected secretary. Jeanne Hester was also elected as a new board member. A total of 75 ballots were tabulated.
The Friends group annually raises funds for improvements at the State Historic Site that are not included in the site’s annual budget from state government.
