Van Dijk family to host fundraiser for burn survivors

(Fremont County, Wyo.) – November 13, 2015 would have been Zephan van Dijk’s 6th birthday. Zephan passed away, along with his brother Noah, in a tragic house fire in July of 2014. The Van Dijks knew they wanted to do something special on this day, something positive and uplifting. To honor Zephy, the Van Dijks are holding a Chili Cookoff Fundraiser to raise money for children who have survived a fire through the University of Utah Burn Camp Project.

The Van Dijk family recently attended the Burn Camp in Utah and it greatly influenced their decision to hold this fundraiser. “It was very encouraging being surrounded by peers who continue through life with a history of trauma much like ours. To see them thrive and keep going was inspiring,” said Feike van Dijk, Zephy and Noah’s father.

The University Health Care Burn Camp was established in the early 90’s to help support burn survivors with the challenges associated with surviving a burn injury. The programs offered at the Burn Camp are designed to help with self-esteem, teamwork, peer interaction; a wonderful way to begin the healing process.

Monies raised from the Chili Cook-off Fundraiser will be donated to children who have survived a fire so that they can participate in the rewarding Burn Camp. The Van Dijk family is inviting the whole community to support this amazing cause and honor the lives of Zephy and Noah van Dijk.

There will be a Chili Cookoff, live music by the Fluffy Buffalo, face painting, and a silent auction. If you are interested in participating in the Chili Cookoff, you would like to donate auction items or buy tickets for this event, contact Feike at 307-349-3795 or email
