Raze downtown and start over? Add more parking? or, Focus on local businesses? Ideas advanced at RECDA session Wednesday morning

(Riverton, Wyo.) – A downtown Riverton businessman presented several ideas for the reinvigoration of the city’s downtown district to the Riverton Economic and Community Development Association (RECDA) Wednesday morning. Aaron Justice, owner of the Brown Sugar Coffee Roastry, said the present retail environment relies on patrons walking through the downtown area, so to enhance that, he is proposing a mix of activities be developed there, including bicycle lanes and pedestrian areas. “The city has been developed for autos and not pedestrians,” he said. Justice’s idea to help spur foot traffic downtown was also to include a splash pad in the city owned parcel at East Main and North Fifth, now a vacant lot used for parking that has been planned for a downtown pocket park. However, he said another group is proposing just such a feature for city park.
