Darla Curtis had bilateral knee replacement surgery several years ago. Her knees had not been the same since. She complained of constant discomfort which she attributed to her knee replacements.
This summer while Darla was lifting a patient at work she re-injured her knee. In an instant she knew she had done something very wrong to her knee. This happened on a Friday and on Monday she was not noticing any improvements in her condition. She went to Orthopaedics of Steamboat Springs in Lander and saw Amy Hitshew PA-C for her initial visit. Her recommendation was to try some conservative therapies and see if the pain calmed down. Therapy did not seem to be helping and after obtaining further imaging it was found that part of the previous knee replacement had broken. At that point she had to have surgery to revise her Total Knee Arthroplasty.
You should know, Darla is not a fan of surgery. Her past two procedures had been miserable- waking up with a lot of pain and a terrible time coming out the anesthesia. Needless to say, she was terrified to have anesthesia again. She expressed all of these concerns to Amy, Dr. Scheer and to Dr. Randy Rice the Anesthesiologist at Aspen Mountain Medical Center. “They listened intently to my concerns and I came out of this so well, I can’t even explain the difference from the previous times”.
The surgery was performed on July 18th at Aspen Mountain Medical Center, in Rock Springs. Since then, Darla has been working with the team at Wind River Therapy. She is completely pain free in her right knee and doing very well. She has returned back to work full duty.
“I can’t say enough about the personal care and attention I received from all of my doctors,” she expressed. “They don’t just hear what they want to hear, they actually listen to you. I would highly recommend Orthopaedics of Steamboat Springs !”
